MUHIMBILI HEALTH EXCHANGE FORUM (MuHEF)

“Exchanging Information for quality in Health”

The Muhimbili Heath Exchange Forum (MuHEF) is an initiative to facilitate
communication and the flow of health information to and from the districts, regions, health experts and post graduate students. MuHEF strongly believes that there is wealth of health information in Tanzania, all that is needed is a suitable mechanism to share this knowledge amongst health workers all over the country.

The MuHEF website was launched in October 2003 through a number of activities that included marketing of the forum and distribution of offline CD-ROMS to all districts, a process that is continued on an annual basis. A commitment from health experts was solicited to ensure prompt responses to questions from the periphery. This was done through a series of meetings with the experts, requesting them also to share with MuHEF all relevant documents including unpublished literature. Meetings are also aimed at discussing progress on the implementation and increasing ownership of the project on the part of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) staff.
Main features/contents of MuHEF:

  • National guidelines, policies and strategies on treatment, care, etc.
  • Abstracts and full documents on studies and research
  • HIV/AIDS Section: all about prevention, transmission, overcoming stigma and livingpositively
  • Online Question-and-Answer (Q & A) facility – A moderated platform where health workers in the peripheries can ask questions and receive responses from selected experts within 1-2 days
